Francesca Albanese’s Bravery To Be Remembered in the Future: President Maduro
During the recent Collective Action in Defense of Palestine meeting in Bogotá, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese delivered a scathing indictment of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.
Describing Gaza as a “death trap,” Albanese condemned the systematic massacre and displacement of Palestinians as one of the gravest genocides in modern history. Her report exposes how colonialism, racial oppression, and capitalist interests converge to deepen Palestinian suffering.
Albanese emphasized that the Palestinian struggle extends beyond regional conflict, serving as a catalyst for global justice. “No one is free until Palestine is free,” she declared. The Palestinian people endure relentless violence: over 200,000 killed or injured officially, with healthcare blocked and humanitarian aid controlled by what she calls the “Zionist regime,” which functions as both oppressor and gatekeeper.
The report criticizes the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Fund as a façade that perpetuates suffering, enabling the forced displacement of a bombed and besieged population. Albanese detailed how, since October 7, 2023, the occupied West Bank has witnessed the largest forced displacement of Palestinians since 1967, with thousands killed, injured, or arbitrarily detained, while settler violence continues unchecked.
Albanese’s findings reveal a sinister alliance between colonial and capitalist forces profiting from Palestinian misery. She highlighted the rise of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange by 213% since the outbreak of intensified conflict, linking this financial boom to a network of corporations enabling and profiting from Israeli military actions, including the surveillance and displacement machinery targeting Palestinians.
Albanese warns of Israel’s use of genocidal violence to test cutting-edge weapons, lethal drones, and customized surveillance technologies designed to exterminate Palestinians “without restraint.” This weaponization of oppression extends the apartheid project and deepens the humanitarian catastrophe engulfing Gaza.

Maintaining trade with an economy inextricably tied to occupation, apartheid, and genocide is complicity. It means endorsing the collapse of the int'l legal order. It means carrying on the EU's conscience each of the 17,000+ children killed by Israel in the past 21 months, of…
Recent Trump Administration Pressure and Sanctions Against Francesca Albanese
In July 2025, President Donald Trump’s administration intensified its campaign against Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, imposing unprecedented sanctions against her.
The U.S. State Department, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accused Albanese of engaging in a “political and economic war campaign” against the United States and Israel, primarily for her cooperation with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in efforts to hold Israeli and U.S. officials accountable for alleged war crimes in Gaza.
The sanctions include freezing any assets Albanese may have in the U.S., restricting her travel, and banning collaborations with American entities. Rubio branded Albanese’s work as “blatant antisemitism” and a violation of U.S. and Israeli sovereignty, citing her recommendations for ICC arrest warrants against Israeli leaders. This measure is seen as an extension of Trump’s aggressive stance against international justice mechanisms, following previous sanctions against the ICC itself.
Human rights organizations such as Amnesty International condemned these sanctions as “shameful and vengeful,” emphasizing that Albanese’s role is to defend international human rights law and that the attacks are attempts to silence critical voices exposing the genocide in Gaza. Several Latin American governments and global movements have expressed solidarity with Albanese, denouncing U.S. attempts to undermine the independence of UN human rights institutions.
This recent escalation underscores the political stakes surrounding the Palestinian cause and reveals how international actors aligned with imperialist interests seek to block accountability and maintain systems of oppression. Despite the pressures, Albanese continues her mission, exposing the brutal realities faced by Palestinians under occupation.
